Maegan Murphy is an artist and illustrator concerned with the complex negotiations of our sense of personal as well as cultural identity: the ways in which we understand our own ethnicity, race, and gender and how those considerations inform our relationship to the wider world both socially and politically. In her fine art practice she explores these themes through close observations of dynamics in public places as well as by playing with the the boundaries between internal and external space. In her illustration practice she engages with implied narratives, examining how the way we frame and spin stories affects our understanding of the world and each other's humanity.
